The 1950's saw a lot of changes in the LTHS baseball program. The Ed Flink era came to an end in 1953 but Coach Flink would remain actively involved in Porter athletics as a member of the "Athletic Control Board". This was a group of two faculty members and three students that according to the yearbook "determined athletic policy and brings about a better understanding of athletic problems of the school". It also approved schedules, finances, athletic letters and awards, and arrangements for the athletic banquet. Mr. Flink also remained as a Social Studies teacher, Athletic Director, Dean of Students and later Assistant Principal. Coach Flink was replaced by Coach Herb VanDeven (1954-56), and Coach Bill Kappmeyer (1957-1963). We also included some lower level pictures as well. Two Porter alumni from this decade went on to have illustrious careers at the major league level. Brothers Tom and Bill Haller would play and umpire respectively for many years. Doug Poulman and Rich Ramos were drafted as well.
